1. General information

The basic approach of the subject responds to the need and the opportunity to make an integrated approach to the architectural and urban project . In the third year of the degree, the student has enough conceptual tools and basic instruments to carry out this integrative reflection. The balanced participation of the two areas - Architectural Projects, together with Urban and Regional Planning - guaranteesthis joint and integrated approach.

These approaches are aligned with some of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, of the Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/) so that the learning of the subject provides training to the student to contribute to some extent to their achievement:

Goal 10: Reduction of Inequalities

Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Goal 12: Sustainable production and consumption.

2. Learning results

  • Ability to develop an urban project from the architectural dimension, using the vocabulary and language of modern and contemporary urbanism.
  • Be able to know and use the basic vocabulary of the 'intermediate scale' of urban planning, while at the same time being able toface both a functional architectural program as well as urban scope objectives.
  • Ability to order, morphologically construct and graphically represent models of residential typologies.

3. Syllabus

The first one, of recognition of the site and the project opportunities, culminates with the presentation of the strategies and general urban planning approaches. A morphological analysis and identification of project problems and opportunitieswill be carried out , with the corresponding presentation (four weeks).

In the second phase, a preliminary urban planning and the design of a singular architectural and urban piece will be developed (four weeks).

In the third phase, the approaches presented in the initial phase will be reviewed and an integrated urban-architectural strategy will be presented with a detailed architectural development (plans, elevations, sections...) of the selected singular piece (six weeks).

4. Academic activities

- Activity type 1 (conferences): 8 hours, The professor will explain the theoretical contents.  Regular attendanceis highly recommended.

- Activity type 3 (practical): 52 hours.

- Activity type 6 (practical work): 24 hours the workshop environment should be intense and with the active participationof the students in the corrections, whether public, for the whole class, or in small groups.

- Activity type 7 (self-study): 60 hours. Time dedicated to study the subject contents and to develop the workshop exercises.

5. Assessment system

The subject will be evaluated in the global assessment mode through the evaluation of a paper with the following blocks:

First phase(10 %)

This first phase will focus on the analysis of the target area and the sector of the city in which it is located.

The groups will analyze at least the following aspects of the area:

  • Topography.
  • Existing buildings.
  • Road system.
  • Vegetation and open spaces.
  • Relationship to the broader urban context.

As a result of the analysis carried out, a management advance will be proposed.

Second phase. (40 %)

Each group will propose an urban development plan for the area as a whole, according to the analysis carried out and the proposed program of needs.

Third phase. (50 %)

It will involve a more detailed development of the proposed planning, with an approach at the preliminary design level of the residential and equipment elements.

This final delivery will also contain the revision of the general arrangement, according to the modifications that the development of the project components may introduce in the whole.

1. Información básica de la asignatura

El planteamiento básico de la asignatura responde a la necesidad y la oportunidad de realizar una aproximación integrada al proyecto arquitectónico y urbano. En tercer curso de la carrera el estudiante dispone de herramientas conceptuales e instrumentos básicos suficientes para llevar a cabo esa reflexión integradora. La participación equilibrada de las dos áreas - Proyectos Arquitectónicos, junto a Urbanismo y Ordenación del Territorio- garantiza dicho enfoque conjunto e integrador.

Estos planteamientos están alineados con algunos de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, ODS, de la Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/) de forma que el aprendizaje de la asignatura proporciona capacitación al estudiante para contribuir en cierta medida a su logro:

Objetivo 10: Reducción de las desigualdades.

Objetivo 11: Ciudades y comunidades sostenibles. 

Objetivo 12: Producción y consumo sostenibles. 

2. Resultados de aprendizaje

  •  Capacidad para desarrollar un proyecto urbano desde la dimensión arquitectónica, utilizando el vocabulario y el lenguaje del urbanismo moderno y contemporáneo
  • Ser capaz de conocer y utilizar el vocabulario básico de la ‘escala intermedia’ del urbanismo, afrontando al mismo tiempo tanto un programa
    funcional arquitectónico como unos objetivos de alcance urbano
  • Capacidad para ordenar, construir morfológicamente y representar gráficamente modelos de tipologías residenciales

3. Programa de la asignatura

La primera, de reconocimiento del lugar y de las oportunidades proyectuales, culmina con la presentación de las estrategias y planteamientos urbanísticos generales. Se realizará un análisis morfológico y de identificación de problemas y oportunidades proyectuales, con la correspondiente presentación (cuatro semanas).

En la segunda fase se desarrollará una ordenación urbanística preliminar y el proyecto de una pieza arquitectónica y urbana singular (cuatro semanas).

En la tercera fase, se revisarán los planteamientos expuestos en la fase inicial y se presentará una estrategia integrada urbanístico-arquitectónica con desarrollo a nivel arquitectónico detallado (plantas, alzados, secciones...) de la pieza singular seleccionada (seis semanas).

4. Actividades académicas

- Actividad tipo 1 (conferencias): 8 horas, El profesor explicará los contenidos teóricos. La asistencia regular es muy recomendable.


- Actividad tipo 3 (prácticas): 52 horas 


- Actividad tipo 6 (trabajo práctico): 24 horas el entorno del taller debe ser intenso y con la participación activa de los estudiantes en las correcciones, ya sean públicas, para el conjunto de la clase, o en pequeños grupos.


- Actividad tipo 7 (estudio personal): 60 horas. Tiempo dedicado a estudiar los contenidos del curso y desarrollar los ejercicios del taller

5. Sistema de evaluación

La asignatura se evaluará en la modalidad de evaluación global mediante la evaluación de un trabajo con los siguientes bloques: 

Primera fase.(10 %) 

Esta primera fase se centrará en el análisis del área objeto de la intervención y en el del sector de la ciudad en que se halla.

Los grupos analizarán, al menos, los siguientes aspectos de la zona:

  •  Topografía.
  •  Edificaciones existentes.
  •  Sistema viario.
  •  Vegetación y espacios libres.
  •  Relación con el contexto urbano amplio.

Como resultado del análisis realizado se planteará un avance de ordenación.

Segunda fase. (40 %) 

Cada grupo propondrá una ordenación urbanística del conjunto del área, de acuerdo con el análisis efectuado y con el programa de necesidades propuesto.

Tercera fase. (50 %) 

Supondrá un desarrollo más pormenorizado de la ordenación propuesta, con un planteamiento a nivel de anteproyecto de los elementos residenciales y de equipamiento de la misma.

Esta entrega final contendrá, asimismo, la revisión de la ordenación general, en función de las modificaciones que pueda introducir en el conjunto el desarrollo de los componentes del proyecto.
